The Client
Infinitesima

Based near Oxford, Infinitesima is a privately owned company founded in 2001, as a spin-out of the University of Bristol, by CTO Professor Andrew Humphris. Their dynamic team of scientists and engineers is focussed on enabling the next generation of semiconductor devices through delivery of innovative products to customers around the world.

Infinitesima has developed a fundamentally different atomic force 3D surface measurement technique, the Rapid Probe Microscope. In the RPM a revolutionary thermal-optical actuation is combined with an interferometric measurement system to deliver picometer precision and speeds >100x faster than those achieved by conventional Atomic Force Microscopes (AFM).

The Brief

We were asked, by Peter Jenkins Chief Executive and President, to act as their outsourced HR Department providing Board level and HR Operational expertise to support their people and growing business, in April 2022. This included implementing an HR system, updating their salary structure and benefits package, as well as providing day to day HR advice and support for upwards of 30 employees and contractors. We also assisted with some employee issues, helped to restructure the organisation, at both Technical and Managerial career levels aa well as updating their appraisal process.

Infinitesima has embarked on the “Great Place to Work” scheme to embed their culture and make them an employer of note, helping them to attract the best and the brightest talent in the Tech industry. We are supporting them in taking the “Great Place to Work” to the next level.

Our Approach

The international aspect of this Tech company led us to introduce our partner Globilisation Partners, who are an Employer of Record, across the world. This allowed Infinitesima to tap into the global talent market, whilst the individuals were able to stay in their home countries.

The Breathe HR System was installed by SYLO and administered by the SYLO Breathe Guru, Sharon. The implementation of this system allowed remote access to all the HR documentation, as the company embraced the hybrid working model and global working, following on from the pandemic.

Expanding their total rewards and restructuring their salary and benefits package has added to Infinitesima’s standing in the industry.

Working with Infinitesima, on a weekly basis, has highlighted the need to update the organisation’s policies, procedures and handbook, to a more employee “user friendly” version, which ties in with their company values and ethos.

SYLO works in partnership within the Operations team, to support and help maintain all the HR essentials needed to allow the organisation to grow quickly, as required. The new systems, policies and procedures also ensures Infinitesima maintains their integrity and GDPR compliance. This support is an integral part of the on-going retained HR advice service that SYLO provides, allowing access to expert HR resource without needing to employ someone in house.
