Xerion Healthcare is a Biotechnology business founded in 2015 and is a spin out from Oxford University following 8 years of research. Based and funded in the UK to develop and commercialise ‘Oxilia’ treatment, they are working hard to transform radiotherapy for cancer treatment using pioneering nanomedicine technology. We had the right HR expertise they needed to support their people.


The Brief

The Chief Technical Officer was specifically looking for HR expertise to assist them with Board level decisions for people related strategies as well as covering all their HR Essential documentation and provide HR advice. We were also tasked to review their existing Contract of Employment, Employee Handbook and HR policies to reflect legislation and compliance.


Our Approach

Our approach from the beginning was a collaborative process; reviewing the requirements of support annually and with the HR lead, carrying out review meetings and update calls.

We prepared board reports and the strategic activity creation of a salary pay scale structure including salary benchmarking, with recommendations for cost of living adjustments.

Pay and benefits are really important to the business to ensure fairness across the company but also to ensure salaries are in line with the market. This was key if the business was able to retain talented staff and be able to recruit talent within a competitive job market.

Our HR Advice support has involved providing ongoing employment law updates, individual queries on wellbeing matters, annual leave and interpretation of policies. More recently we undertook a review of their policies in response to COVID-19 and the safe return of staff to the laboratories after a period of working from home.

As with our other retained clients, our cloud-based HR system Breathe was implemented and has helped underpin some of their compliance requirements and where necessary, remote working.

This really has been a retained HR service that is about their people and providing support and advice to their business.
